Today we officially welcomed two new football coaches, Head Coach Casey Clausen and his brother Rick, who will serve as offensive coordinator.
Casey was the quarterback at Alemany in the 1997-2000 seasons and then went to the University of Tennessee, where he threw for almost 10,000 yards and 31 touchdowns. Rick also played for Alemany as well as for LSU and Tennessee. Their younger brother Jimmy was the third quarterback in the family and played at Oaks Christian, Notre Dame University and then in the NFL for Carolina, Chicago and Baltimore.
While at Alemany, Casey played on the same team as our current wrestling coach Ricardo Garcia, current science teacher and robotics team moderator Kevin O’Shea and our marketing director Miguel Fletcher, among many others.
Here is a photo from today’s introduction. Pictured (from l to r) are Rick Clausen, Boys Athletic Director Dave Urbach, Principal Dr. Dave Chambers, Casey and Assistant Principal Randy Thompson. Urbach taught both Clausens in high school and Thompson was then the Dean of Boys.
This photo is from Casey’s senior season at Alemany in 2000. He is #14
If you have the time, we have one of our football games from the 1997-1998 season available to watch. It was billed as a matchup of running backs Miguel Fletcher and Notre Dame’s Justin Fargas (who later played with the Raiders) with Casey as the quarterback. Again, he is #14. (Give the video a few minutes to process.)
You can also see it on YouTube, at this link.
Welcome back Casey and Rick.
